FAQ

What is Paintless Dent Repair (PDR)?

It is the removal of dents or damage from the body panels of a vehicle without the need for paint. It can be used on steel, aluminium, and some plastic panels.

Factors which may limit the possibility of a PDR repair include;

  • The condition of the paint work

  • The amount of stretched metal

  • The thickness of the metal

  • The intensity of which the panel was struck

  • The flatness or curvature of a panel

How does it work?

  • Hail dents, and smaller dents; The most common repair method includes the use of a wide range of metal rods and hand tools of different shapes and sizes, they are used to push out the dents from the inside of the panel. Another method when there is limited access involves glue and specifically designed tabs that are used to pull dents from the outside using a slide hammer or mini lifter. Repairs are finished by tapping down to remove any high spots.

  • Large dents, body line, and collision damage; This sort of damage requires a lot more traditional repair methods combined with modern PDR methods and equipment. The most important steps and majority of the repair processes involve applying tension and tapping down all of the crowns and buckles that are caused by the larger impact damage. these crowns are holding all of the energy in the panel and by releasing that energy it allows the dented area to go back into shape. While these dents may look extreme with correct repair methods they can be fixed to a level where you wouldn't even know it was damaged.

  • All repairs require the manipulation of metal in precise locations, this is only possible using a PDR light. The light allows the tip of the tool to be located easily,  and show where the high or low areas of the metal are.

How long does it take?

  • Most repairs can be conveniently done in less than a day, minor dents in a couple of hours. Meaning hardly any time without your car and no hire car costs.

  • Severely or multiple damaged panels. 1-2 days

  • Hail damaged cars. 2-5 days (unless paintwork is required)

Do you do any paintwork?

NO. Albury Dent Service does not do any paint work. Light scratches may buff out. Any paint damage that is through the clear coat may be improved but, will not be able to be removed at Albury Dent Service.

How much does it cost?

Costs will depend on the severity of the dent/damage. Dents start at $80, most repairs can be carried out for much less then the cost of an average insurance claim excess. (about $650).  In most cases hail damaged vehicles will require an insurance claim.
